Achievement Unlocked

Let me preface this short post by warning all those who really don't care about the inner workings of my blog that this post will bore you. If you want something more fun to do, check out Armor Games' Achievement Unlocked.

Today, I did the unimaginable. I rejiggered the layout of this page to make it look correct in nearly all browsers, including the should-have-been-dead-by-now Internet Explorer 6. Up to this point, IE7 looked a bit strange, and IE6 was fed a simpler, uglier, and less useful version of some pages. This vast improvement is not the only cause of my celebration, though. All browsers are using the same style sheet, with no browser-specific hacks or hand-holding.

As part of this minor redesign, printouts of the pages do not look correct, and Unfinished Thoughts Mobile has some major issues, but these should be sorted out once I get some sleep.

Good call with achievement unlocked, although the link seems to be broken. Also, you really did work to make your website more functional for IE6? I'm impressed. I guess that could help for future employers and all that. Although, would you really want to work for someone using IE6?

John, are you stalking me? The post has been up for less than 10 minutes in the middle of the night.

1) The link is fixed. Thanks.
2) Well, I actually set out to remove my support for IE6 completely, and then things somehow morphed into enhanced support. It's, um, all very complicated… You wouldn't, um, understand.

hate to bring your down. :-D but the layout does not look so hot on AOL. I know you dont care much for it -- just letting you know it is beyond less than perfect on that browser.

Love you. *hug*

beeteedubs, everything else looks great!

@Most Loyal: Unfortunately, since I am at Salkehatchie right now, I will not be able to do any testing in AOL. If you could send me more information about what version and such, it would help a lot. Thanks.

...AOL? That still exists outside of billions of free trial CDs?

William Flake wrote:

@Linus: Sadly yes, and a large percentage of my readership (specifically, 1 person) uses it on a daily basis.

Who uses it on a daily bases? Personally, I like firefox and safari the best. I was just showing someone your site and they just happened to be using AOL. I am not sure what version it was but it had your about me page all out of whack.

Ah, that makes sense. Something might have gotten lost from the About Me styles. I'll look at it.

Let me know if you need more info about it.
