Thrill of Victory, Agony of Defeat, and Something In-Between
These past few weeks have been interesting. I would have posted about them more, but I was too busy doing things to tell people about them.
Football, Part 1: Clemson vs. USC
The first game that I got to go to last weekend was the famed Clemson vs. USC game. Ok, so I only got in because it was a soccer match, but still. It's technically a Clemson vs. USC 'football' game.
Despite the fact that I haven't been to a soccer game since, well, the last time I played in elementary school, I had a good time. By every account except the final score, Clemson was sort-of dominating. We had better control of the ball, we shot at the goal more often, and still managed to lose 0-1. Soccer's a weird sport.
On a related note, the soccer stadium, despite being rather miniscule, is almost exactly the same size as Summerville's football stadium. It adds a weird sense of scale to life here at college.
Football, Part 2: Clemson vs. MTSU
Clemson's first American football game was against Middle Tennessee State University.
From a fan perspective, it was a lot of fun. The crowd was orange and loud. The band was over-energetic as always. The drunk frat guys behind me were drunk, obnoxious, and falling down several rows of seats.
From a game perspective, we got lucky. We won, but only by 17 points. The spread was 47.
In any case, though, it was quite enjoyable. Go tigers!
Football, Part 3: Clemson vs. Georgia Tech
I didn't go to this game, but did watch most of it on TV. Holy cow. The first quarter was the worst football I've ever seen in my life. Within minutes, we were down by 21 points. The rest of the game was a lot more exciting, with us finally playing decently, and we only lost by 3. Considering we've lost 5 of our last 6 matches with Tech by less than 5 points, that's not too of a comeback.
Tennis
On an unrelated note, I've been playing absurd amounts of tennis recently. It all started innocently enough. Brian, Daniel, James, and I went to the courts one sunny, Sunday afternoon. Since then, I've been back nearly every other night. It's weird how much you can improve at something when you actually bother to work at it. (Ok, so it's not that brilliant of an insight)
Anyways, I've had a great time back at school so far, and hope that this coming birthday/anniversary/getting to see Brittany (or Lynn (or whatever she goes by)) weekend will be equally great.
PS: Just as I finished typing up this post, my computer crashed. After using a Mac for years now, I just discovered that TextEdit has an auto-save feature which prevented me from losing this post. Woo hoo.
